ArchiCAD to BIM Modeling for Dusty Robotics Use Case
Court House Redevelopment Enabled by BIM Conversion and Robotic Layout
Introduction

In a courthouse redevelopment project, the general contractor adopted Dusty Robotics' field printing tools to improve layout precision. However, the original design files were in ArchiCAD, while Dusty Robotics and the coordination environment required Revit. The contractor brought in Treknocom to convert and refine the architectural models, ensuring compatibility and ensuring they were field-ready.

Treknocom was tasked with delivering Revit-native BIM outputs that aligned with MEP and structural coordination, as well as layout automation requirements.

The Challenge
  • Cross-Platform Conversion: Original architectural models in ArchiCAD needed to be converted to Autodesk Revit without loss of fidelity
  • Layout-Ready Precision: Models had to meet high accuracy standards for Dusty Robotics to perform automated field layout
  • Trade Coordination: Revit models had to support clash detection with MEP and structural disciplines
  • Efficient Turnaround: The conversion had to be delivered on a fast timeline to align with field deployment milestones
The Solution

Treknocom deployed a cross-functional team to manage the model conversion, coordination, and delivery process:

BIM Conversion & Optimization
  • Imported ArchiCAD files via IFC and rebuilt geometry in Revit with accurate element placement
  • Optimized model geometry and removed unnecessary design data to ensure field performance
  • Structured model elements to meet LOD 350 requirements for architectural deliverables
Coordination & Clash Management
  • Integrated structural and MEP models to ensure complete trade coordination
  • Used Autodesk Navisworks for clash detection and issued resolution reports to design teams
Field Integration & Cloud Collaboration
  • Enabled Autodesk Construction Cloud for version control and stakeholder access
  • Delivered layout-ready Revit models integrated with Dusty Robotics' field workflows
Technology Stack
  • Autodesk Revit – BIM modeling and refinement
  • Autodesk Navisworks – Clash detection and coordination
  • ArchiCAD – Original design model input
  • Autodesk Construction Cloud – Collaboration and document sharing

Result
  • Rapid BIM Turnaround: Revit models were delivered in time for field deployment and robotic layout sequencing
  • Field-Ready Outputs: Layout-specific model structuring enabled high-precision Dusty Robotics printing
  • Improved Coordination: Clash-free delivery reduced field errors and rework across disciplines
  • Successful Cross-Platform Integration: Treknocom enabled a seamless handoff from ArchiCAD to Revit for real-world field application
